On TREND, On TIME

SPRING-SUMMER 2013

AUTUMN-WINTER 2013/2014

I can't believe it's nearly that time of the year again.. London Fashion Week and it's only around the corner! Where has this year gone already. Each time London Fashion Week starts to appear everywhere such as Vogue, Elle, billboards and sponsorships, the preparation for the chaos and pressure, I get stupidly excited as well as every other mixed emotion. I'm sure it's a lot of make-up artist's / designer / photographer's dream to work back stage at London Fashion Week.. and it's certainly always been mine.

With Spring-Summer drawing to a close a lot of this years trends are falling through to Autumn-Winter 2013/2014.  A Rose Bouquet, the palest pinks to warm rosy glows. Head-to-toe in rose tones I definitely think this will be a statement colour for this year. Summer in shade, this season the palette is back to black and it's not going anytime soon! With it's complex pieces seen at Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, Versace's sheer lace panels and Roberto Cavalli's thigh-high split gowns. Precisely White is still my favorite trend and you certainly can't go wrong with a wardrobe white-out. It looks so simple yet so classy and feminine. This is the start of a blank canvas which can be seen at Valentino, Prada and Celine to name a few. Walk the Line stamped on zig-zags, stripes and chevrons which may seem a little daunting, if you add the right accessories - monochrome bangles, gold or candy stripes you can pull this off perfectly.

With Autumn/Winter not that far away, we start off with a few trends which have been and will still be a big hit on the catwalk. The Rise of the Oversize, has previously been fur, leather and trench coats and following into this year the beautiful pale pinks are on trend with nothing but oversized. Spotlight on the Skirt has been a big on-trend over the spring/summer this year and with it's knee-length, bold statement pieces you can't go wrong. To monochrome, floral, or just plain and simple skirts. Woman's Realm is definitely the silhouette this year, with it's elegant flare out skirts, breast-hugging bodices, clenched in waists and grown-up curves, it has womanly charms written all over it.

Darkness

I've still kept it simple through this weather with monochrome which includes a light oversized jacket from ASOS, a crisp white vintage blouse added with a white & gold spike necklace by Topshop, leather trousers, heeled sandals and lastly the snakeskin backpack also by Topshop.

Beauty Shoot // London

Yesterday I finally got to work with the lovely photographer Ella Tebbutt where we created a beauty shoot in South-East London. I had the pleasure of working on an absolutely stunning model, Lily @ Nevs Models, having the perfect look to complete the beauty shoot. I created a 'bronzed glow' for the first look using a lot of golden/brown tones, keeping the eyebrows/eyelashes natural and a lot of contouring on the cheekbones and temples. Throughout the first look I added a burgundy colour lipstick which looked beautiful for the look. The second look was in the bath filled with water so, with the make-up I kept the golden tones on the eyes and added a light blue on the crease of the eyelid and then to make it a bit more striking I added an electric blue on the bottom lash line, blending it to the outer of the eye. I then finished the look by adding a coral colour to the lip. After I finished the beauty shoot I headed to Elite Model Agency where my good friend Benn was doing a test shoot. I had the pleasure of meeting the Californian model Meghan McLellan. Perfect day!

BTS - Vu Cong Thanh's Private Collection

Yesterday I did makeup for the designer Vu Cong Thanh - for his private collection, held at a beautiful church in the center of Cambridge. I worked with head make-up artist - Freya Goodacre. Jasmine Eleazer and Jade Dixon where we had two models each to complete. The look was a flawless base, pink tone on the inner corners of the eyes taking it up to the brow, a lot of contouring below the cheekbones/temples and mainly focusing on the lips by creating an ombre lip using black as the outline and a dark red for the center. I was absolutely stunned by Thanh's collection he had made for SS14, the detail and effort he had put into everything! It was such a lovely day and met some really nice people.

'The Wight' SS14 Shoot

On Saturday I did makeup for one of my friend's, Steph, for her final university project which was a long but incredible day! I had a meeting with Steph a few weeks back to organize and go through the shoot as it had been planned for a few weeks and, I could no longer wait after the what-seemed a very long build up to it. The collections included six outfits and five underwear sets which Steph had made over three months and it was based on female stereotypes in the media. I worked with such a lovely team involving: two models a lovely photographer & assistant, the designer - her assistant and my assistant. I created two main looks, one for the six outfits and the other for the underwear sets. On the first model I created the famous 60s makeup look which involved a pale canvas, a little contouring, nude lips with the main focus on the eyes: winged eyeliner, blended eyeliner above the crease line and under the lower lash line, then adding the finishing touch: false eyelashes. On the second model I created a modern version of the previous 60s look involving a matte base, a pale eye look using neutral shades, false eyelashes, a little contouring and then mainly focusing on defining the brows. I was so pleased with both looks as I've always loved re-creating looks from all sorts of era's. For the underwear sets I just changed the lips to a matte lipstick - 'So Chaud' by MAC and Estée Lauder's sheer Long Lasting Lipstick in 'Honey', added a bit of powdered blush to the cheeks and also added more volume to the bottom lashes. Gordon's photography page you can find here, Dani's website of her portfolio can be found here and my assistant you can find here.
